Summary
This position, under close supervision of a licensed nurse, is responsible for assisting staff, patient(s) & community by providing clerical support. Duties include data entry, receptionist, maintenance of department supplies, ambulation and transportation of patients. This position may retrieve and transport select medications and blood products, including transportation of a sealed medication tray for the purpose of crash cart exchange. The unit Secretary will not participate in the administration or distribution of medications directly to patients. This position has some exposure to body fluids and communicable disease. The majority of time is spent sitting with frequent standing and walking of short distances. Occasional lifting of up to 100lbs, and occasional carry of up to 25lbs. A culturally and linguistically diverse patient population is served including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics, with the majority being adults and geriatrics.

Specific Educational & Skill Competencies Required
Effective communication skills, the ability to follow written and verbal instructions and the ability to operate standard office equipment. Must be competent in multi-tasking skills. Successful completion of high school studies (or GED) and previous office experience are required.
